Awe3: Social Engineering Awareness

Not only phishing mails but also a seemingly harmless phone call or pretending to be a supposedly “new colleague” belong to the attack tools of a social engineer. One can repeatedly find that employees are hardly aware of such attacks. Links in phishing mails are clicked and credentials entered, information is provided on the phone and the “new colleague” is admitted access to the company premises.

The workshop "Social Engineering Awareness" deals with this problem in an illustrative way on the basis of many vivid practical examples. The training is held by SySS’ own Red Team that can look back at ten years of practical experience in the implementation of social engineering attacks.

The training is targeted both at beginners regarding the topic and IT-affine persons. On the basis of case studies, you learn which psychological methods social engineers apply and how to best defend such attacks.

Topics

The topics contain the psychological basics of social engineering as well as illustrative case examples:

  • Definition – what is social engineering?
  • Techniques – functionality of social engineering
  • OSINT – the basics of social engineering
  • Recognition and countermeasures – defense against social engineering

Procedure

The training "Social Engineering Awareness" is carried out via the video conferencing system Zoom. The participants receive a link in advance and can participate in the training using a current browser. Alternatively, access is possible via the Zoom client on the computer or smart device. A dial-in telephone is possible as well, also as an addition, in order to process the audio connection separately. After completion of the workshop, the participants receive the slides with the worked out content.
